About AVIMA
AVIMA (Agricultural, Veterinary, Industrial Manufacturing and Marketing), founded nearly 60 years ago, is a South African pesticide manufacturer, distributor, and service provider with more than 180 pesticide registrations, and growing strongly.
We work closely with governments, NGO’s, farmers and other commercial operations to provide sustainable solutions for effective plant, household and animal pest management, and disease vector control. With our diverse product solutions and all-encompassing support and training packages, we have a strong foothold in more than 25 African countries.
Our rich history
1961
Incorporation of Internatio Muller Holdings (IMCD). We are involved in many businesses including machinery, chemicals, and electronics.
1961 – 1965
The technical chemicals division continues to grow, including production of pesticides.
1966 – 1968
African Py Spray is founded from IMCD and focusses on the production of Pyrethrum-based products as a main ingredient.
1969 – 1971
Partnership with Brazillian Casa Bernado increases use of Aluminium Phosphide in products.
1972
Name change to AVIMA – short for Agriculture, Veterinary, Industrial Manufacturing and Marketing. Becomes a “value-add” company and started developing own registration and formulation capabilities. Our product range continues to grow beyond Pyrethrum only.
1973 – 1979
Two divisions develop strongly: complimentary products for grain and formulation of Pyrethrum products for pest control as a manufacturer and agency of pesticides for Environmental Health Management, agriculture, and speciality markets.
1980
Started with malaria vector control programs, products, and training.
1981
The production of DDT for Malaria control is added to our product range and become one of our core offerings for responsible indoor mosquito control until 2010.
1982 – 1991
Involvement in crop protection continues to grow.
1992 – 1995
Our involvement in product training and stewardship becomes characteristic to the AVIMA brand. It is still today.
1996
AVIMA becomes an international role player, exporting to several countries. This is still true today.
2000
AVIMA is bought from IMCD (MBO) to become an independent, local business.
2001
Extending Tsetse fly control in Africa as part of our Integrated Vector Management service.
2001 – 2004
Our product offering continues to grow. The export market grows to 50% of our business.
2005
In addition to our offering, we become a distributor for selected BASF products.
2006 – 2010
We continue to grow as a major role player in all markets, especially malaria prevention.
2011 – 2012
AVIMA expands its services to Southern Africa (SADC), selected East African countries and growing in West Africa.
2013
Join the Ascendis Health group (JSE listed) and form part of the Ascendis Phyto-Vet division under the Biosciences unit.
2016
ORTUS and KLUB M5 merged with AVIMA
